MILWAUKEE, Wis. (October 28, 2008) – High school and college-aged students play an important role in blood donation, providing the American Red Cross with nearly 20 percent of its blood donations. To say thank you, the Red Cross is hosting a special “Twilight” Fans Blood Drive to help fans count down the days until the premiere of the much-anticipated “Twilight” movie which opens on November 21.
“TWILIGHT” Fans Blood Drive
Friday, November 7
12 p.m. to 6p.m.
Waukesha Blood Donation Center
2220 Silvernail Rd., Pewaukee
Only 38 percent of the population is eligible to give blood and only a fraction of those actually donate. Recent statistics show that blood donations to the Red Cross by teenagers are increasing, while blood donations by older individuals are decreasing.
“We’re hoping that our donors who are fans of the “Twilight” books will see this blood drive as a fun way to celebrate the release of the new movie, as well as encourage fans who have never donated before to give blood donation a try,” said Tara Warden, Donor Recruitment Representative for the American Red Cross. “We also hope they’ll continue their dedication to blood donation by taking this opportunity to donate outside the walls of their high school or college.”
It doesn’t matter if you’re on “Team Edward or “Team Jacob”, all presenting blood donors will have a chance to vote for their team, as well as receive a free pass for them and a friend to attend an exclusive “Twilight” Fans VIP Release-Night Party on Thursday, November 20 at the Majestic Cinema. Presenting donors will also have the chance to win free admission to the 12:01 a.m. showing of “Twilight” at the Majestic Cinema on Friday, November 21, compliments of Marcus Theatres.
Those attending the VIP Party on Thursday, November 20 will also have the chance to win cool “Twilight” movie memorabilia, enter the “Twilight” Character Look-a-Like Costume Contest and find out which fan base reigns victorious – “Team Edward” or “Team Jacob,” based on votes cast at the blood drive on November 7.
